Post Weekend links 7.6.13

I don't know what's up with Aught but we haven't had any links for quite some time now.

I'll try to remedy that and post such awful links that Aught will be forced to resume. ;)

1) The Steubenville rapes.
The rapists got 1-2 years in prison, the hacker who exposed them may get 10 years. Not only is that way out of proportion but he shouldn't be getting any jail time.

2) Killing hookers is OK
In Texas, a man shot an escort after she didn't have sex with him. According to Texas law that's just peachy.

3) Creationism in Ohio
There's another "teach creationism"-bill floating around in Ohio. Luckily the parents are standing up the the board.

4) Same-sex marriage kids are better off
According to a new study done in Australia, kids from same-sex marriage couples are generally better off than kids from same-sex couples. I would have though they would be equally well off, but that's fine too.

5) Louisiana creationism bill
Same as Ohio, but here Zack Kopplin is in the fight. Watch the last video, it's hilarious.

6) Science Denial/Education, Social Justice
Straight from the NCSE we get this 1h lecture:
"Sometimes people don't want to hear the truth because they don't want their illusions destroyed." ― Friedrich Nietzsche

From the still in the video:
"I think when it comes to evolution, I think science is great ... we should know the facts as to how the world evolves because it does. ..."
"... I believe in the truth and the truth only, not somebody's imagination or hope or whatnot. ..."

So she's an atheist/agnostic? :P

Among others yes. Good album, nice cover art and fits my nick. I assume you are also familiar with their work?

From link 4:
---
Former prime minister Kevin Rudd said the wellbeing of children had been ''the sole remaining obstacle'' to him supporting same-sex marriage, which he announced in a blog post last month.
---

I've heard this many times before. Looking at it another way: single parents are allowed to have children, thus two parents should be allowed to have them too no matter what gender or sexual preferences. The more the merrier - so how come, when it comes to cases of two parents of the same gender, that there are "obstacles"? Somehow, just because they're of the same gender, there is a problem.
The reason I bring up single parents is because the argument is often brought up that both genders are needed for a "proper" nurturing/upbringing; 'A man and a woman is needed for a child'.

Yes - I've got all their music - although I prefer the original line-up, when Gabriel and Hackett were still with them - not that Phil hasn't done a good job fronting the group with Darryl and Chester on tours.

Kindest regards,

James
