Post Re: My Illness

Thank you, Visaki. I appreciate the advice. I think I am going to just thank them and leave it at that for now. I know this situation is hard on everyone who cares for me, but at the same time, I kind of feel like I'm being deceptive about my true feelings on the matter, and that makes me feel a little uncomfortable.

I'm thinking about being cremated and using my ashes to grow a tree. Any thoughts?

I pray for your peace and comfort Brian Tewmey! I met you a couple time in my high school years as being friends with Courtney Tewmey. I don't know what your beliefs are. But I want you to know that God is there waiting on you! Even if you have went your whole life not having a personal relationship with God it's not too late! It's not too late to ask for Redemption and experience the peace and joy He can bring in your last days here! It's not easy to let go of this life, I'm sure and not easy to say goodbye to those who love you so much but there is a Heaven that is more than this world will ever be and I hope to see you there one day friend!

I'm getting a lot of these types of posts lately. Should I ignore them, or should I address them head on? Any thoughts?

With people you don't really know, just block them or troll them. They're only interested in preaching and making themselves feel superior. According to them, you'll go to hell and they'll go to heaven and I don't think you can be sad about anything in heaven, even loved once enduring eternal torture in hell.

Loved ones? I don't know. This is a tough one.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

You know that is pretty much exactly what I answered when a religious person in a local forum asked what I wanted to be done to my corpse after I die (since I don't believe in an afterlife). Not that I actually care at the time but I thought it might be a nice thing to my family and friends have a place other than a grave to visit and remember me if they want. I actually mentioned an apple tree partly as a jest. You know, "Whoever eats My [apple] flesh..." and so forth.

In their own way they're trying to be kind. At the end of the day, praying only makes the one who's praying feel better.

Apart from Visaki's response, If you want to respond, rather than call yourself an atheist, you should identify yourself by your beliefs - in my case, when asked, I say I'm a humanist, specifically a secular humanist, and don't believe in deities.

It at least let's them know where you stand, if that's important to you, whilst allowing them to pray to whatever deity they want without insulting them. Unless, of course, they start the "you're going to (burn in) Hell!" diatribe, in which case, you can point out that they're not (being) Christian.

Kindest regards,

James

Thanks for the advice Dragan, but I've backslid a little bit. I'm back to being a Deist, not that it matters, when there may be a Creator that is not there and no deity all.

I don't know how I've missed your updates. It sucks to hear things have not turned around for you. I'm not sure any of us is in position to give advice that means a whole lot. I say do whatever makes you happy or gives you peace of mind. I love the tree idea. By far the best option I've seen.

It really sucks to here something like this. I hope you can make your time you still have great. Personally, if I were to die, I would also like to be cremated. Though I do want my ashes to be shot into space.

I think I speak for all of us when I say that your courage is inspirational. I cannot begin to imagine what it is like to be in your situation.

It is also very touching that you wanted to come back to the forums to interact with us given your situation. I just hope that we can provide some support and consolation to you.

Post Re: My Illness

I'm not sure how you would go about trying to find out when this will reach market in the country you live in or if you could travel to Australia to get it but I would check into it were I you. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-09-06/r ... al/7819344

Not trying to offer false hope but I'd rather pass along something that doesn't work than be negligent in sending something that might have given you more time.

I just logged in to thank you all for all of your kind words and encouragement that you all have shown me before and since my diagnosis and notice a badge above my avatar. First I was shocked, and then I had an overwhelming feeling of gratitude. I'm honored beyond words. Thank you all so much.

Thank you, Laurens. Coming back to the forums to interact with you all helps alleviate some of the fears that I sometimes feel knowing my time is short. You all have taught me a lot about life and shown me ways to think outside of the box. Which I consider a gift. I spent most of my life in a comfort zone, not really thinking of what life was all about. You all helped free me from the fear of the unknown and that not knowing all the answers is okay. I am at peace with going, even though I wish I had more time, but that only makes what time I have left more precious.

Thank you for the link, Collecemall. It looks very promising for sure. I spoke with my Hospice nurse about any new clinical trials that may be available and she said that I could leave the care of Hospice in order to seek new treatments, when available. I looked into the drug mentioned in the article, but it does not look like it is currently an option for me here in the States. Plus, I’m not really sure how much time I have left. When I was last in the hospital, they gave me a ballpark figure of 6-8 weeks. Obviously, I could have more time than that, and I am hoping that will be the case, and in the meantime I will be asking around to see if there are any more trials going on for people with my stage of cancer. However, I am not really sure I want to waste any time that I may have left, when it could take away from the time that I could have been spending with family and friends. In a way, I think my family are taking this harder than me. Don’t get me wrong though, I have not given up in the slightest. I will continue to fight for as long as my body hold ups.

Take care... :D

My childhood was not easy and I wished that it had been easier long before I was diagnosed with cancer. That said, I do not recall ever hearing as a child that life was fair. Growing up watching wildlife and nature shows, I already knew that life was unkind. So, I don't feel any differently now than I did before. I just wish I had more time to spend with the ones who I love deeply.

Yes, cancer does suck, indeed! I serious doubt that they find a cure anytime soon. Drug companies make too much money treating the disease rather than curing it.

Post Re: My Illness

About 15 years ago my father and uncle were both diagnosed with cancer. My worthless uncle had it all over his body but my father only had a tumor on his liver, but it was to close to an artery to operate one. Both went through chemo and of course it was my father who died a year later and my worthless asshole uncle is still alive.

A lawyer told my father to go ahead and max out all of his credit cards before he died. Maybe talk to a lawyer about this and other things. They will probably help you for free.

Consider the mental and emotional fortitude of the people who you chose to be around you when you die.

Hospice will give one of your family members a huge bottle of morphine to keep in the fridge and tell them to kill you with it, whenever. They will also basically demand to say something stupid at your funeral like, "Let the love Tuxbox had for us, guide us everyday."
