Parents remove son from school in pupil gender row

Mr and Mrs Rowe say the school's handling of the situation did not show proper regard for the possible long-term emotional and psychological effects for the two young children seeking to change gender, or for the confusion and concern caused to other people by the suggestion that boys are not always boys, and girls are not always girls.

It's just so terribly confusing, won't somebody think of the children?

In states where gender fluidity is much more culturally acceptable, children don't seem to have any of these confusions. Perhaps the Rowes might want to consider whether it's them confusing their children by telling their kids that boys are always boys and girls are always girls because it's clearly not the case in their kid's class. Perhaps if the Rowes met the child concerned, or talked to the child's parents, they might discover an untapped source of empathy and tolerance.

Post Re: Isle of Wight Christian Confusion

I can't put my hands on it now but there was an article circulating facebook last week where religious zealots from both the US and Britain were imploring Australians not to vote in favor of changing marriage laws. They had a whole list of complaints describing how unfair it was for "normal" folks to have to include others and how their children shouldn't be exposed to reality. While I might agree in that when things change after long periods of oppression things can get pushed to extremes in the other direction I found it all a bit ironic. Suddenly the medicine they had been forcing on homosexuals for eons was a bit foul and not to be consumed by themselves.
