Idiocity seems to be the most common of those.

So is passing water wherever you stand.
Doesn't mean I won't kick you out if you do and are over 4 and under 80.
Just go through the woods now, in early autumn, collect all the funghi you can find and make a good meal out of them and let's see how healthy "all natural ingredients" are

I had a pharmacist (yes, a real one) try to sell me a cold-preventing coughdrop- had Vitamin C & Zinc ~ OK fair enough.
But then she said, "And it's natural!"

So I said, "Are you insinuating that the others are magical? Because if that's the case I'd much rather have them."

She just stared at me.

That's one of those things that bugs the crap out of me... that and "organic." I once had an argument with my co-worker who swore up and down that her Calcium supplements were organic. A cursory examination of the ingredients on the bottle proved otherwise.

Well... to be fair, it is almost certain that the calcium supplements were not grow with "non-organic pesticides, insecticides and herbicides," or raised with "the routine use of antibiotics and with the use of growth hormones," as per the Wikipedia definition of organic food...

As an organic farmer, I can tell you that there's no real benefit to organic farming over "inorganic" farming.

It makes asshole rich people feel even more wonderful and special than they already do, to eat food that the poor people can't afford. Isn't that a "benefit"?

Sorry, I blogged about it a few hours ago, and it is still on my mind. I promise that the punch and pie is made from ingredients that normal people can find in their "regular people" grocery stores for a reasonable amount of money. OK, it is Hawaiian Punch and a Sara Lee pie.

Don't people pay more money for less food if it's labeled organic? Surely that has to be an advantage in a capitalist system.

Hm, I think there are several (not organic farmer, I just by your products ;) ) points here:

OK, the scientific claims here are without source because it's writing from memory of "what I read in the newspaper"
I can actually give you the newspaper link, but it also just "quotes", although I think that it makes some valid points apart from the usual "healthcalims"

-According to US-studies, there are less pesticide-derivates in the urine of children who eat only organic food (http://www.saarbruecker-zeitung.de/sz-b ... 25,2994535)

-Organic eggs don't contain less germs than especially battery produced eggs, but they are less reisitant against antibiotics.

And some aspects that are often not mentioned:

-Animals are usually better kept. No, no sympathy for Peta, but I think it's a shame what we do to most lifestock.
-If you buy organic grown exotic food you can't be sure that the workers are propperly treated and paid, but you can at least be sure that they're not poisoned by having to deal with pesticides without having training nor protective clothing
-It tastes better.
Especially in somewhat processed food, organic food has less aditives, and some of the stuff added to conventional food is simply poison.
I'm a big "read the ingredients" person. If something that I know only contains about 4 ingredients if you make it yourself and about 40 if you buy it, then there's something wrong. Just for the fun of it I just took an organic vanilla-yoghurt out of the fridge and it contains: yoghurt, sugar, vanilla. At your next stop at the supermarket, take a normal one and start reading. Make sure to arrive early or at a 24/7 supermarket.
