RAM is 4 gigs, processor is an intel core 2 duo T6400 2 GHz, and its a 64 bit system. Dont know what all you need to know, but I can pull up more if need be.

And my hard drive has about 202 gigs free, dont know if a defrag is worth anything when its that high but I can give it a go.

I'm thinking a new video card is in order. What are you currently running?

Is this a laptop or a desktop?

It's a laptop... kind of tough to upgrade the hardware then.

What did you change a bit before this problem started happening. Any little thing could have done it, such as windows update, or even installing winmd5sum, or other seemingly innocuous things.

You can try getting windows 7... if you're a university student, then find someone with an MSDNAA account (computer science majors, often times electrical engineering majors as well; generally anyone taking a CS course at the university (beyond the intro one anyway)) and you might even be able to get a free windows 7 professional.

If it's a laptop and a gpu problem then: you must get a new motherboard (unless of course the "problem" is that your gpu isn't strong enough, in which case you need a new computer).

If it's a laptop and a gpu driver problem then: see if your manufacturer has specific graphics drivers, sometimes downloading them directly from ATI or nvidia won't work out properly.

If it's a desktop and a gpu driver problem then: you can try finding old versions of drivers...

If it's a desktop and a gpu problem then you can probably just buy a new GPU. BUT if you bought it from like... hp's compaq presario line, or an emachine... then upgrading the gpu might fry the power supply unit... So even if it's a desktop you have to be careful

Yah... the T6400 jumped out at me... I guess I didn't actually bother to go look it up, but... Yah...

My only electrical engineer friend graduated last year :(

And thanks and everything, but I dropped my laptop this morning to much . So, I guess when my tax refund comes in thats where it will all be going. Oh, and a computer hardware for dummies book ;)
