Post Batman V Superman (SPOILERS)

Has anyone else seen this yet?

I sort of liked it. Ben Affleck as Batman was surprisingly awesome.

However there were so many stupid moments that kinda ruined it for me.

First off was when Lex Luthor introduced Bruce Wayne to Clark Kent. What was that all about? He's like "you guys should totally meet, I can't believe you're in the same building finally!" but surely as far as he is concerned Clark Kent is just a lackey at the Daily Planet. Why the fuck is he granted the same level of knowledge as the audience? That really bothered me.

Second was the whole 'oh our mothers have the same name, we should start the Justice League.' I can sort of see what they were trying to do here, but it failed. I also thought that this turning point totally made the whole conflict pointless. Clearly the point of the movie was to establish the beginning of the Justice League, so what even was the point in the whole preamble of them being enemies? Why not just have them unite at the start?

The concept of Batman vs Superman is cool. I thought it was done well in the Dark Knight Returns graphic novel. However here it just seemed lame and didn't really serve the plot from what I could tell.

Having said that though, the fight in the warehouse when Batman goes to rescue Superman's mother is awesome, and possibly some of the best Batman action on screen to date. I think I probably would have enjoyed a solo Batman movie way more. Lets hope we get one.

Post Re: Batman V Superman (SPOILERS)

I haven't seen it yet. I bought a couple Batman V Superman comic books about 15 years ago and in the series, Batman actually kills Superman. I was never an avid comic book collector or anything, but I am surprised by how many of the 20 or so comics I have bought in youth were eventually turned into movies. The Aliens vs Predators comic books were most awesome. Most people don't know that the movie where the that black lady helps a Predator fight against Aliens at the south pole was based on a comic book.

I am interested to see if the film borrowed anything from the comic books I know.

Yes, Benny was actually good I thought.

I'm able to tune out the stupidity during watching a movie. It's a good talent to have.

I noticed the same. Why would Lex Luthor, or Bruce Wayne for that matter, know some third rate journalist (which Kent is judging from how Perry treats him... also; how come Perry hasn't fired his ass already?)?

Second was the whole 'oh our mothers have the same name, we should start the Justice League.' I can sort of see what they were trying to do here, but it failed. I also thought that this turning point totally made the whole conflict pointless. Clearly the point of the movie was to establish the beginning of the Justice League, so what even was the point in the whole preamble of them being enemies? Why not just have them unite at the start?

I think that was more about Batman realizing that Superman was actually a person, with friends and family and a desire to keep them safe. It, after all the talk about Superman being a godlike figure, humanizes him to Batman. Idea of the JL comes after the fight, after they can no longer rely on Superman.

The concept of Batman vs Superman is cool. I thought it was done well in the Dark Knight Returns graphic novel. However here it just seemed lame and didn't really serve the plot from what I could tell.

I always knew that the just could not make the plot much like the novel. It's just too dark, too mature. Though I thought that Dianas part in the movie felt a bit too forced. Not that I'm against her being in, but she felt like an afterthought to the writers. Give her some depth, something to actually do, some reason to fight. Now she was some babe in a nice dress that wanted a photograph of herself back (btw, that kinda photo would be all over the net) and who went to fight with Bats and Supes because... reasons.

Having said that though, the fight in the warehouse when Batman goes to rescue Superman's mother is awesome, and possibly some of the best Batman action on screen to date. I think I probably would have enjoyed a solo Batman movie way more. Lets hope we get one.

Yeah it was a nice fight if you can get over the fact that henchmen still seem to think that the have to wait in line to get a hit in. Also I don't think that lieing on top of an old lady really provides that much cover from a exploding flamethrower tank 3 meters away.

All in all I enjoyed it even with some annoying things. I suppose we'll get a Justice Legue movie before seeing a new Batman solo movie (possibly another reboot). But honestly I'd be happy if they left Batman alone for a decade or so, we get too many sequels and spin off these days.Come back in 2028 with a fresh new take on character that people aren't bored at anymore.

Post Re: Batman V Superman (SPOILERS)

I thought that every aspect of this film was shite.
Lois Lane's predicament was a pathetic, lazy plot device and the actress seemed to be slightly embarrassed at having to do the film (particularly the cringe-inducing, uncomfortable bath scene given the supposed chemistry of the participants).
Lex was played (and written) terribly.
Batman is an utter prick (and not in the cynical, curmudgeonly way portrayed in TDKR comic, which is in character; going round branding criminals is insane.
Bruce Wayne has all the charisma of a tepid falafel.
Doomsday is barely recognisable and has an unfathomably stupid origin.
The appearance of Flash is... Daft, conflated with Bruce's on the nose dream sequence.
The reasoning for finishing their beef makes Supes and Bats is irrevocably insulting...
Gotham and Metropolis are apparently twin cities effectively within pissing distance of each other.

The list of awful decisions made in the making of this film is almost endless, and Zack Snyder and David Goyer should never be allowed near a brainstorming session ever again.

The best thing about the film is Wonder Woman's Mediterranean accent (she's from a Mediterranean island after all).

I love DC, having a rather comprehensive collection of their titles, but WB have shit in its mouth and called it caviar.
if constructive debate is allowed to progress, better ideas will ultimately supplant worse ideas.

I'm pretty much completely ignorant of the Justice League lore, so a lot of it probably went over my head.

I agree that Lois was pretty lame (Lois Lame---you can have that one for free).

I also thought the proximity of the two cities was weird. I mean it looked like the other side of one city across a river. I had always assumed they would be pretty far apart.

The branding thing was odd too. Why was it a death sentence? Surely other convicts would see it and just say "Batman sucks doesn't he? Our job would be easier without him". I think they were toying with an interesting concept of moral greyness, but in a stupid way. Just have someone point out that dressing up in a weird outfit and beating up criminals is a bit fucking strange and probably insane. That would be enough to get the audience to buy that people in this universe don't necessarily rally around him in support.

I think my opinion of Batfleck is most likely derived from him being better than most of us expected. I'm not entirely sure. I'd have to see it again to say, but I'm not sure how likely that is.

Post Re: Batman V Superman (SPOILERS)

I don't really ble Affleck, never had a problem with him playing the role; the blame lies squarely at the feet of Snyder and Goyer. I didn't understand why Batman was having the visions of parademons then an oblique forewarning from Flash when it would've made more sense for Flash to just warn him of the possible future, given that Bats isn't known for prophetic visions. I suspect that this entire section just confused newcomers to the JLA. Also, bit daft bringing Darkside in as the über villain for their team up given the arrival of Thanos over at marvel (they are quite similar).

Post Re: Batman V Superman (SPOILERS)

Another thing I found odd was the whole mini justice league trailer showing clips of the other members. Also why is batman baffled when she shows up at the end? They'd been in contact with each other!

Batman vs Superman could be such a cool film (going by title alone) but ending it with them being buddies fighting doomsday undermined anything cool that they might have done.

I loved the dark knight returns depiction of superman as a stooge of the government, it would have been cool to have seen them take more influence from it. They almost did something cool with the whole questioning superman thing but it never paid off...

Post Re: Batman V Superman (SPOILERS)

Man of Steel is one of the worst comic book movies ever made. Couple that with this:

I am never going to see this piece of shit movie and I hope the whole universe they were trying to create stays ruined and never sees the screen.

This is something that I think is hilarious and goes to show that actual comic book nerds work for Marvel, and do not work at Warner Brothers. I thought from the start that putting Thanos and Ultron in their movies was a big FU to DC. Two of the greatest threats in the whole DC universe are Darkseid and Brainiac. Marvel using Thanos and Ultron (and making their movies awesome) in my opinion, was a clever way to stick it to DC while challenging them to use those characters. If Warner Brothers were smarter, they would not have used Darkseid at all because of just how similar he is to Thanos. However, now all the new viewers (if they actually keep this franchises going) are just going to think "DC copied Marvel's Thanos with that Darkseid character."

Post Re: Batman V Superman (SPOILERS)

I get the hate, but I enjoyed it in as much as you can enjoy a Snyder superhero movie. Enjoy the noise and don't think about it. Needed more Hal Jordan.
