Post 2012 the movie

This isn't a review because I haven't seen 2012, but I'm suffering from a strange compulsion......

This is the first time in my life that I've wanted to see a film just so that I could tear it to pieces......and that's gotta be wrong, hasn't it?

Further to that, what do you guys think of the viral marketing campaign that has indirectly led to thousands of people visiting whacko doomsday websites in order to unearth information about 2012?

Does it strike you as the most cynical marketing ploy ever?
Do you think it's irresponsible for the movie-makers to try and manipulate theatre goers with scare mongering and conspiracy theories?

I've heard the special effects are good but that the scientific justifications are laughable. It sounds like a movie I might watch but wouldn't pay money for the privilege. As for the marketing campaign it's just amusing to me.

I've watched it. If you suspend your brain for about 2 hours you will enjoy it, especially the ending.

There is also, by looking at wikipedia, going to be a television spin-off. I'm hope that it happens.

The explanation for the disaster is: The sun is undergoing the biggest solar maximum in recorded history, and the neutrinos the Sun emit are "mutating" (both me and my brother loled at that) into a new kind of particle that is penetrating the Earth and acting like microwaves, increasing Earth's interior temperature. Its increasing it so much that the rock in the mantle is becoming more and more molten which will allow the Earth's tectonic plates to slide.

There's also a planetary alignment to the center of the galaxy, but apparently the filmmakers forgot about it.

Considering that it was forced into the movie (if one can force anything into such thin plot) you might want to answer yes. It had absolutely nothing to do with the plot or even reasoning of the film.

The film itself is in fact every doomsday scenario brought to you by the Discovery Channel since 2003. You got pole reversal, super volcanoes, tsunamis, solar radiation, etc. The unique part was that whole sliding plate tectonics as if they where pieces of foam floating on water but that, like said above me, requires major suspension of belief. (Wouldn't the entire plate just melt if it got that hot?)

So you know what? Do you like watching shit blow up and average choreographed action sequences? Then you'll enjoy the movie. I don't understand why people walk into these movies expecting something intellectual. For fuck sakes, I just watched it because I haven't seen the White House destroyed in an epic manner since Independence Day. Though to be fair, even that disappointed me.

Post Re: 2012 the movie

i`m not sure what to say about this movie.

i have not seen it.

in any case it`s an obvious money grab.

I`m hoping this does not turn into a reoccurring trend in the future.

Next thing you know we've got an NWO war movie and a movie about David ikes Tares.
and of course whatever other nonsense that`s just beyond the horizon.

SPOILER WARNING: but probly nothing you couldnt figure out from trailers

As I just finnished watching 2012, I guess this is a pretty good place to make my very first post on LoR.

The movie can be pretty easily split into 2 parts, the first half being the build up, and natural disaster stuff. I will admit I enjoyed this a fair bit. The science was certainly laughable, but the special effects, (namely the super volcano and escape from LA scenes) were rather good. Woody Harrelson dose an excelent job as the crazy conspiracy nut radio type guy.
The second half was almost a completely differant film. Involving mostly people bickering about the ethics of playing god by choosing who gets included in the survival plans.

A trend I have noticed though.... In these "Doomsday" type films, there seems to always be a divorced couple. The children always dislike the father, or prefer "mom's new boy friend". The new boy friend always dies. Divorced couple rekindle their love. I dont feel that this plot element adds to the movie in any way.

Idle out.

I absolutely love how bad Hollywood Science has gotten. I'm convinced Roland Emmerich just opened a Physics book, put his finger on a random page, and said "Neutrino, eh? Sounds good. Of course neutrinos can change dramatically, melt the core of the Earth, and not do anything to any organisms on the surface."
"well if I don't get to take surveys or sell my body, it's a deal breaker"
