Post Re: The doctor? Doctor who?

Indeed.

Odds are not good on multiple Doctors physically appearing in the fiftieth, however, someone noted that there might be a clue in The picture of Dorien Gray after Matt Smith's hint "Paintings". Seems fairly plausible to me, and follows the (sometimes annoying) trend in Moffat's scripts for reworking classic British literature.

Post Re: The doctor? Doctor who?

Actually quite looking forward to the new series.

50th Anniversary celebration and a companion who isn't devastatingly annoying and FUCKING GINGER.

I've had enough.

Post Re: The doctor? Doctor who?

Aww, I love gingers.

Speculation from friends of mine:

1. New companion is 12th Doctor sans Time Lord consciousness (see Family of Blood, Last of the Time Lords et al; chameleon arch)
2. New companion is the universe's response to its oldest and greatest champion's mounting losses (remember River Song's message to the universe at large during The Wedding of River Song?), including, possibly, his own memory. Relevant phrases: "On the Fields of Trenzalore, on the Fall of the Eleventh, when no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer, a question will be asked. A question that must never ever be answered", "I got too big, Dorium, too noisy", "Doctor Who?", "oh Oswin, you did it to them all [removed all memory of The Doctor from the Daleks]; you beauty", "run you clever boy, and remember..."
3. New companion is The Rani (this is always a possibility).
4. New companion is unknowingly part of a plot by The Great Intelligence, and by proxy The Silence to remove The Doctor from history. Basically the same as before but with GI as puppet master.

I quite like 2.

I still don't see why Karen Gillan had to go.

I'm going to be in Cornwall at the in laws on Saturday, who aren't big Whovians. Thank BBC for iPlayer.

Probably because Moffat spent between five and fifteen minutes at Gallifrey Base*.

Post Re: The doctor? Doctor who?

Here's another idea courtesy of GB... The silence will fall... stuff is all a trap within a trap, set up by the Great Intelligence (a mind without form) to take over the Doctor's body? Feeds into the memory-messing arcs of 11.

at the fields of Trenzalore, when only truth can be spoken a question is asked... Doctor who?

Perhaps he won't be spilling his name to River as has been speculated previously (as she does seem to learn his real name at some point - See: Silence in the Library).

So far so good. I've not been blown away by any of the episodes (though Cold War and Hide were pretty damn good), but they've been consistently entertaining, even the horrendous RTD style Deus Ex of 'The Rings of Akhaten'.

They brought back the ice warriors for an episode. This made me somewhat happy.

I didn't really care much for them... I want the Black and White Guardians to come back.

Of course, these may or may not be true.

Well, last time there was a big get together of all the old doctors Tom Baker refused. I think you could probably get Peter Davison to make another brief comeback but if they bring back Sylvester McCoy i'm going to avoid it like the sodding plague.

Also both the proper incarnations of the Master (Delgado and Ainley) are now dead and John Simm is a useless bag of wank so I think any proper nostalgia overload will be missing quite a lot of awesome...

Post Re: The doctor? Doctor who?

Shitballs doesn't even describe it. Not a great story in-and-of-itself, but a full-on spunk bath for fans

I noticed that Clara and The Doctor are still within the timey-webby-gangly-wangly thing, which probably makes it an easy-in for jumping into Doc 10 and Rose's time.

I think the odds on John Hurt being the Last Great Time War Doctor just shot up.

It didn't strike me as a finale, more a part one to be concluded, which may explain why the story was a bit thin.

Post Re: The doctor? Doctor who?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/ar ... Doctor-Who

"Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show. I'm incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day, to realise all the elements of the show and deliver Doctor Who to the audience. Many of them have become good friends and I'm incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last four years.

Having Steven Moffat as show runner write such varied, funny, mind bending and brilliant scripts has been one of the greatest and most rewarding challenges of my career. It's been a privilege and a treat to work with Steven, he's a good friend and will continue to shape a brilliant world for the Doctor.

The fans of Doctor Who around the world are unlike any other; they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show (and speculate more about the future of the show) in a way that I've never seen before, your dedication is truly remarkable. Thank you so very much for supporting my incarnation of the Time Lord, number Eleven, who I might add is not done yet, I'm back for the 50th anniversary and the Christmas special!

It's been an honour to play this part, to follow the legacy of brilliant actors, and helm the TARDIS for a spell with 'the ginger, the nose and the impossible one'. But when ya gotta go, ya gotta go and Trenzalore calls. Thank you guys. Matt."

Well that sucks.
