Donald took a deep breath, choking out the gibbering panic rising up in his stomach. Everyone was expecting him to jump, he had signed up for this, his da would be disappointed if he didn't follow through now. "Just like training," he muttered under his breath, and launched himself towards the earth.

He took control of the fall, as he'd learned. The world seemed to melt away as he concentrated on the ritual of his jump. One-thousand one, one-thousand two, one-thou-ow, damn. Yep, the chute had opened. He looked up to be sure there were no snags and that he was falling smoothly. Well, as smooth as these could make it, anyway. He then looked down at the quickly approaching earth, and willed his muscles to relax before impact, and adjusted his arm to prepare for his landing fall as the ground approached.

Post Re: Lutansia (OWoD)

Liam crumbled up the note and took out his keys. Once inside he did the routine check of all the hiding spaces to see if anything had moved. He made sure that everything was placed just so, that in the event of someone finding the gear, messing with it and putting it back he'd notice it was tampered with.
The note he put a match to and tossed it into the fireplace, ensuring it would go up in cinders. What a total buffoon! Liam thought. Might as well paint 'RESISTANCE' in big letters on my front door. Gah!

After fuming for a few more minutes Liam decided it was time to do some midnight work. One of the safe houses he had procured in town could use a stick grenade, so he took out one, unscrewed it to make sure the string was secured tight and fastened it again. The two guns would be a lot harder to conceal, so he decided against bringing those for the moment. He did take out the box of ammo for his pistol - a Walter PPK - and took along one spare clip. The clip he simply pocketed, but the stick grenade was a different matter. This he managed to fasten beneath his belt and carry diagonally across his belly. He was glad he had such a decent winter coat. Not only because the air was starting to get rather chilly, but because it was large enough and had enough functioning buttons to fully conceal the darned German grenade. Why couldn't they just stick to pineapple bombs, like 'normal' armies? Ahh well.

After a 'third double-check' to make sure all the hiding spots were secure he left the house, locked the door and got cycling again. The first safe house he'd go to - also where he'd intend to leave the grenade - was located about a mile south, about two blocks north of a place called Imerloo Park. It was owned by an elderly couple of which the husband had fought in the Great War, or WW1. They had a massive basement that they simply didn't use, and Liam had gleaned that over the course of two years at least this brave couple had sheltered three Jewish families before the resistance started dealing with them. They had a grandson who was about Liam's age who'd joined the resistance that had first alerted him to this possibility. The basement was large enough to give room for a handful of people comfortably, and perhaps a good dozen in dire circumstances. The house stood on a side street and the back door gave way to a close-fenced alleyway. And while quite a calm neighbourhood, the house was about a ten minute jog from the river Rhine.
Inside the house was decorated every bit as much as you would expect from an elderly couple, with a prize old gramophone player topping off the late 1800's reminiscent décor. When trying to come up with good code to use when friendlies or foes were present the couple itself insisted on using their old records to pass down messages to the stowaways beneath the house. They had used this method for the families they had sheltered over the years and according to them it worked perfectly: play Chopin's preludes when there were friendlies, Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody for foes, Vivaldi's Winter when unsure. When there were people in the shelter/ safe house, the couple made sure tap the carpet-covered hatch that led down into the cellar thrice in rapid succession whenever they would go down or let someone down so the people downstairs wouldn't try and shoot them or anything. They made quite sure that everyone involved with resistance knew these codes if they had to deal with them so there would be no unfortunate mishaps of any kind. Right now there wasn't anyone in hiding that Liam knew of, but he'd make sure to tap the floor regardless once he'd gotten there.

And on he rode, under a clear night, packed with a small bomb tied to his waist, a handy handgun stashed in his pockets, ammo included, and a pointy-ended sticker kept comfortably warm by his woollen socks in stout brown leather shoes. What. Could. Possibly. Go. Wrong?

Post Re: Lutansia (OWoD)

Here's the fun thing -
Liam would notice a change to the skyline as he went outside...
The sky was lit up with lights and there were sounds of an explosion in the distance.

Why? Because, in this time Liam was fiddling and cursing himself about morons, and tinkering with his explosives, a mile and a half to the southwest of town it began raining men from the sky. Namely Luke, Donald, and the rest of the plane that had took a leap out the door with them.
Kelso and Halden did something rather unique that set them apart from their peers. Like the pair of odd ones they were, they jumped out the side of the plane with a backflip (well, Kelso at least. Halden took to being more of a cannon ball with a bit of spin) and kept falling past where the others had opened their chutes.
Damned idiots.

But it was alright - near the ground, they popped chute before hitting it, landing near a farmhouse in a farming field (empty right now except for high grass - someone hadn't farmed here in quite a while). They made a quick to-do about cutting their chutes from their backs. The rest of the group seemed as if they were going to be caught in the wind a good minute further from the farm house in the field... But it was still visible.

As Luke would have been rolling his eyes ... Well, that's when the firing and the alarms started up.
And the sky began setting alight with explosions from cannons and the sight of tracing AA rounds flying in the air.
(You should be able to hit the ground next turn since you were the first out of the plane. The rest of everyone else minus Kelso and Halden will follow you in up to 2 turns gradually. )

But enough about the hell on the outside - Liam found himself riding his bike on a street with quite a few men too busy to be bothered about what he was on about... Well, that depended on how good Liam was at blending into the mess and keeping out of notice.
(Alertness + Performance to not drawing attention to yourself)

Post Re: Lutansia (OWoD)

What were those blasted fools... no time to worry about it, bullets above and ground below.

Luke concentrated hard and took the landing nice and smooth. He pulled out his trench knife with the brass knuckle handle - a gift from some Kraut trenchman by way of Papa Wilson - and cut his chutes free. Even with that baggage gone all the crap he was carrying slowed him down on the spongy ground. He resolved to dump the bombs as soon as he got to the house - damn things made him nervous - but the rest of it was all he damn well had right now, so Luke resolved himself to a slog.

It didn't look like anything had happened to the flyboys - but, hell, no telling what would be coming up ahead, or if a patrol decided to snoop by. Luke unlimbered his pistol and slid in a clip. First he would make sure the farm was clear. Then, if he got real lucky, there might be a tractor and wagon he could scrounge up for some transport. Maybe there'd even be enough time for some creative screaming at Kelso and Halden before the rest of the boys were rounded up. Fun times in occupied territory.

On his decent, Don did all in his power to make himself as small a target as possible. The concentration on the routine helped shut out the panic of the bullets flying his way.

He fell into his landing, throwing himself to the side as he'd trained to disperse the impact. The distant sound of the artillery firing upon the planes brought him to the present. He cut loose his chute and reserve pack, and kept low as he quickly but carefully assembled his Thompson.

He let out a tense breath as he locked the ammo box to the gun, and lifted his head to take in his surroundings. Time acted funny when he focused like that, he couldn't keep track of it. It felt like he had only just touched ground seconds ago. He strained, gazing into the darkness for any sign of friend or foe, before making his next move.

Post Re: Lutansia (OWoD)

As the two Americans hit the ground, and were cutting themselves loose of excess Parachute, Kelso and Halden had changed their demeanor in the 2 minutes that had passed with them falling. It's as if as soon as their boots hit the ground, it was show time. They had rolled up the parachutes on the bags, and tossed them into the tall grass - Halden had traded his Explosives to Kelso, and Kelso already propped up the stand on his Bren LMG and placed it on one of the stone barrier that was fragmented in some places from years of neglect.
Halden had a spotter piece out from his pocket, looking into the house itself.

(Quite a shame, if Luke took time to notice it. It was a really nice Farming wall)

"Farm looks abandoned, Yank." Halden said to Luke, not taking his eyes out of the piece. There wasn't a single Kraut in sight, either, as Don would note from his good Perception roll (along with everyone's positions as well).
Luke would see no equipment of any use from over here. No trucks or vehicles, not even a tractor. The house seemed a bit aged as well.
Don would probably notice it before Luke, or the two chucklefucks staring at the house. The Parachutes were dropping the men everywhere all over the place. One of them was heading straight for a tree, and another was heading towards the house.

That's going to hurt, Don would think to himself for a brief moment.

Satisfied that he wouldn't be exposing himself to enemy troops, Don clambered to his feet and jogged over. Noticing the man falling towards the farmhouse, he winced slightly in sympathy for the poor soldier who was going to make that landing. He stepped up with Luke and the Brits and drew their attention to him. "I hope there's no one in that house. Probably need to help him get down when he hits. And that one," he added, pointing towards the man aiming for the tree, "might need some help getting down from his perch as well."

He glanced towards the nearby road, and turned to Luke. "What's the plan, sir?" He knelt beside the wall, no sense being the biggest target from the other side.

Liam scanned the street to see if anyone was paying him any attention. So far, they hadn't seemed to notice him yet. Just to be safe, Liam decided to butt into an alleyway and take a minor detour.

"Holy hangover! They're actually coming! Well twist my knickers, better get into the action. Fuck me, why didn't I take more weapons!? Guess the oldies will have to wait on this shipment."

't Was south and west he was riding now, mentally planning ahead a route to take that would take him near the action, but hopefully not smack in the middle. He might be a soldier, but he wasn't currently geared as one.

Perhaps it was time for another safe house instead. For now, he just hoped he wouldn't be seen by Germans and sent home like the innocent civilian he was. Or worse, ordered to assist...

Post Re: Lutansia (OWoD)

What the hell was the plan again?

The briefing came flooding back to him. Skulking through the fields, magically meeting up with this contact, somehow shaking up the Krauts enough to forget about the damn bridge that was the only reason they were even here - brilliant.

Luke winced at the soldiers coming down in a bad way - mentally he cut the number of troops he actually expected to pull together by a handful. Well, nothing for it right now but to start gathering the men up. He looked over the three troops he had right now and started delegating.

"Allright, you curs, ya'll can stop being spooked by that there empty building and start worryin' about the damn Nazis like yer supposed to. Kelso," he pulled out his own explosives and passed them to the Brit, "this here road is one of the routes into the city we're supposed ta clog up. Set up something that'll put a busted tank right in the middle. Don, find a perch 'n cover him in case someone starts scouting up this road. Halden, you go sort out the guy in the tree and I'll talk the other one down from the roof. If ya'll see anyone else tell 'em to rally behind the house. And hop to it, we need to move out quick once we have our people!"

Luke hopped over the wall and started towards the farmhouse, confident that there was nothing to worry about right this second... even if his hand still clutched his pistol tightly.

Post Re: Lutansia (OWoD)

Traversing the City, Liam was in quite a spot with the whole night turning into somewhat of a ruin... Despite the hellfire and chaos what was currently the German Military forces, combined with the explosions far overhead of flack cannons and the sound of Anti-Air weaponry in the distance, he was quite unsuprised by their reactions. It was mostly professional (aside from one commander he saw in his night jammies barking out orders - worst. wakeup. ever.) and they knew what they were doing.
As Liam dived into the alleyway, heading Southwest, he cut through an abandoned house - stopping to catch a breather.

Ah yes. This was the house where the Poor Miller lady threw herself out the window because her deadbeat of a husband left her with all debt, no money. The fact that there was a bit of Myth behind it that kept the locals away was exactly what he was looking for in terms of storing everything the men needed.
Inside the shed out back, if Liam were to open the door, was a pull-crate for a car usually used on farms. Inside it were 21 pairs of pants and 23 pairs of shirts.
Quite a few paychecks those were - and bugger-all if he didn't get some kind of financial reimbursement once he got back home for this whole mess he'd sank his own capital into. The cart was come by thanks to the ambitions of the Arnhem Resistance movement.

Oh, and there was the small road into town just down the alleyway here...
The wall arched high and the old mighty oak bearings were held still by time, ancient technology, good old elbow grease - and steel reinforced garterings. There was a lock on the gate itself, of course, to discourage anyone from opeining the door on it.
But, what's this? A Crowbar? You mean Liam's been planning this whole ordeal for months?
Yep.

Unfortunately, Liam wasn't in the best of shape for snapping locks - perhaps there was another way to do this if all else failed.

=================

Several clicks away the men began hitting the ground, cutting chutes and settling in with the fact that they were lugging an entire war's worth of equipment on their backs. They began the loathing process of trading off things they didn't want to others in exchange for something perhaps a bit lighter. But it would look like the drop left them in a clusterfuck all over the place, some parachutes still falling and being blown off futher into the fields and some even further up the road.
Hopefully they followed his orders and marked the map.
And... There it was. The THUD of man vs. brick.
"Sonuvabitch!" the man said quite loudly, his chute hung on the top of the brick chimney. He was far enough up where cutting himself out would possibly be the worst mistake of his life - luckily he recognized that fact. At least he seemed alright.
The poor guy in the tree wasn't far off from the ground, but he was fumbling for his knife in the dark, dropping it on the ground and quite out of reach. Shit.

Kelso looked over to Luke solemnly, picking up his weapon and thrwoing it over his shoulder with a kind of ease that didn't match his size in the least - slung over his shoulder. He took the charges from Luke, and began to move down the road.
Kelso looked over to Dom chilling and ducked-down beside the wall, grinning.
"Got my back, do ya? It'll just be a few moments."
He climbed over the wall with all the nimbleness of a man carrying all the weight and then some, and began to walk down the road, pulling out a coil of thick wire, taking a knee just before a curve.

Halden put the spotter piece back in his pocket, nodding to Kelso as he, himself, began the motions of climbing over the wall and walking over to the tree, pulling out a knife to help the man in the tree.

It wasn't too bad for a first drop. It didn't seem like anyone was shot on the way down, and there weren't any smashed bodies that could be seen from failed openings. Not a bad way to start a war.
Some would insinuate that being drunk at 9 in the morning to be signs of serious issues.

De geest van Geertje Mulder (Dutch for: The ghost of Gerry - or whatever - 'Miller'), apparently still screamed during some nights. Liam had always assumed that it was just something mothers told their unruly children to prevent them from sneaking into the place and breaking stuff - the house's or their own bones. Now that he stood here, with the night sky occasionally lit up with explosions of light and the distant sound of planes and busy German troops, it did feel a bit eerie to him.
Not that he was superstitious, oh no. He knew his stories - knew them rather well in fact - but until he'd see a ghost he would resolve they didn't actually exist.

"All right," Liam whispered to himself, "let's see how this is done," and grabbed the crowbar after placing his bike up against the wall.
(1 success)

There, he almost had it. If he could just...
squeeeeeeek clang!

"Arsehole!" Liam thought to himself, as the lock clattered to the floor. "What if someone's..."
He looked around swiftly. Surely someone must have heard that! Best get inside quickly.

Not forgetting to clean up after, he picked up the broken lock and chain, opened the gate and closed it after him, tossing the lock beneath a wild berry bush that had grown here unattended and taking his bike with him.

Ah, hell, that sounded like it hurt. Luke winced as he walked up to the chimney. Least he didn't go through the roof - and nobody was going splat. This day might be getting better already. "Stop squirmin' ya fool, we'll get ya down from there." Guy looked like a stuck pig up there like that.

Now if it were just a man up there Luke could probably just catch him no problem, but considering all the stuff they were both carrying that went stab and boom that wasn't going to work.

"Hey, you!" Luke boomed out, pointing to the nearest soldier who had just landed. "Get your ass over here, and bring your chute!" A little blanket jumping never hurt anybody - least it wouldn't hurt Luke, and if the limey bastard got hurt it was his fault for getting himself stuck anyway.

While he waited for the chute to get drug over, Luke pulled out his rifle and assembled it - could practically do that blindfolded after basic - while nervously glancing at the road. This would be the worst possible time for the Krauts to come rolling by, so sure as hell they would

Don nodded and set down his Tommy gun atop the low wall. He carefully set down his rucksack beside the wall and rummaged through to pull out two clips for his rifle. He slung the rifle case off of his shoulder and quickly put together his rifle, sliding one clip in. The other went in a pocket. Checking the strap first, he slung the rifle over his shoulder and reclaimed his Tommy.

The Springfield, as he saw it, was for real shooting, when he was settled into position. The Thompson was there for more open encounters. He wouldn't easily be able to switch between the two, but having them both readied and on-hand would be wise.

He jogged off after Kelso, keeping his eyes peeled for a good position to set up and scout from.

Outside the wall of the city, the skyline was very much a different place than it was before. The explosions in the sky had grown louder, and planes could be seen flying actively overhead. The sizzling sound of long range guns firing into the air and the echoing blasts from the countryside echoed out here, literally making the empty area sound like a hot-zone battlefield.
It wasn't yet, of course - but it would be soon enough.

Going out the door, Liam would grasp the old lantern outside of it - aside from the brief flashes of explosions in the air, the clear night was being obfuscated by smog and powder from the sky, threatening to darken it... And this air operation didn't look like it was ending anytime soon. With one of the few all-surface matches stored in the underside, Liam struck it on the brick, lighting it up - the light dim through the old and rather fogged glass casing.

There was only one thing left to do - old stories from childhood sometimes remarked about how useless it was to look for rabbits in a field with snakes, but that was just what Liam would have to do.
Lantern in hand, bike handle in the other, the spy looked out into the endless fields -

"Sir?" The other man said, dragging his chute over to Arthur. Arthur was distracted, though, fiddling around with something he should be able to do in his sleep blindfolded... A distinct expression of what could be described as a stoic ignorance of fear.

Kelso looked over his shoulder to Don once more, motioning about how well it was going, and looked down to tinke with the wires some more, making side-comments about how shitty the American AC system was. He pulled out the wiring on the egg-timer front on it. Don would be pretty cofident that he knew what he was doing for now - mainly because he hadn't blown up yet.
Halden returned with the other man, having left the chute in the tree. There was no real way to get that shit out of there once it was wrung up in the branches.

All in all, 15 men had gotten back together... 5 men who had landed God-knows-where and in Hell-knows-what condition.

An acid reply worked its way to Luke's tongue.

He bit it back. "Thrice damn catch!" He propped the incomplete rifle behind the chimney. "Allright, soldier, you grab one end and I'll grab the other and we pull." He grabbed up a handful of parachute. "You up there! Start getting yourself out. We'll have the chute open below you, and you damn well better land right way this time!" He grinned widely and his tone grew a bit playful. "And don't you worry none if you drop that knife, just means I get to practice my throwin', and I ain't missed yet!"

He made sure the chute was nice and taut for the wayward Brit to fall into. Best to concentrate on one thing at a time, other stuff would sort itself out.

Don only kept half an eye on Kelso, intent on watching for any incoming enemies that might cause him trouble, instead. A tree recessed somewhat off the road provided a decent perch, and Don climbed it with the quickness of one who grew up in the woods. He took a moment to find a nice sturdy branch to lay against, still low on the tree, and raised the Springfield's sight to his eye, getting a good look up, down, and across the road. He smiled a little, remembering doing this when he was still just a boy, sitting up in a tree with his father's rifle and waiting for a deer to happen by.

However, back at the older farm area, something was afoot.
As the men were gathering, shaking off the rather rough landing some of them had and being brought down from their precarious perches, Don not only felt, but saw the signs of trouble...
Though his sight couldn't see around the corner - he felt the branch he was sitting on shaking just the slightest... Glancing quickly through his scope, he saw Kelso hurriedly throw the long, thick cable from one of the explosives he had rigged into the bushes - waving his direction with a few signs he could barely make out from the distance and the low light.
One thing was for hell as sure - and it was probably the reason Kelso was trying to duck out of the way and keep quiet as he could manage:
