Post Re: SKYRIMMMMMMmmmmmmm

I started playing last wednesday (aka a week ago) and am just about to hit level 20. (Shaedys wtf lvl 43 man) All the weapons I find are weak (Shaedys wtf man!) but so far I'm doing fine, never met any real challenges. I haven't really played the main quest yet (just got the horn) but I instead focused on all the small quests as well as the small guilds. (Finished the Assassins, nearly done with Thieves, in the middle of the Mages, in the middle of the Fighters Guild and just started to work for the Imperials)

It's pretty nice (even though I have to play on lowest graphics to make it run fast enough to enjoy it, it also runs on highest on my flat-mates PC) but it has the same feel as Oblivion. Far too big, far too many quests, always the same. Makes me wish someone would do another game based on the Gothic I and II feel.

I'm now waiting for Christmas, gonna get BF3 and Revelations. AWESOME!!!

" I used to play Skyrim like everyone in this topic, then I took an arrow to the knee!"

Wonderful game, although, with star wars: tor beta (Trooper ftw) and path of exile beta, I haven't really been playing it.

Gonna start it up and see if I can't finish the mage guild quest.

Me? I'd insinuate it as signs of no plans and a refrigerator full of Whiskey and Guinness.

When you see it's 4 AM and you haven't stopped playing, you realize it's too epic of a game for us mere mortals.

I mean, fuck. Level 29 Mage Archer Double-Swordsman Pickpocket Lockpick. It doesn't get any better than that.

I just wish there were no spiders. Just, no, fucking, spiders. Anywhere. I shall make a mod which adds a spell that turns a spider into a teddybear.

I just got bored of Skyrim. Too long, not enough happening, too repetitive.

Skyrim finally turned into this for me:

Why does my life have to be so small
And death is forever
And does forever have a life to call its own?
Don't give me an answer cause you only know
As much as I know

There is also supposed to be a mod that turns the spiders into mudcrabs.

It's one of the install options of the mod I linked, I think.

Pretty sure it's another download.

So, I just put the meshes folder into the data directory. I hope this works. Gotta wait until I find a spider.

My stone-age computer won't handle it, and it's not clear when I'm getting a new one (not for at least 6 months).

Oblivion was horrific. It was buggy, clunky, had too much limitation on keybinds(my only qualm with Skyrim so far is that I can't queue up abilities, I have to wade through menus if I want a variety of attacks), and it didn't handle high resolution well at all. On top of that the game itself was rather bland.

I've never heard an argument in its defense that didn't mention mods. I think a game should be able to stand up on its own merit. Skyrim does, Fallout 3 almost did, and Oblivion didn't come close. So, at this rate, whatever they release next should be fraking amazing.

Would you recommend Oblivion to someone who doesn't mind modding it? I've played Morrowind and I couldn't stand the game without loads of mods (like an economy realism mod, and a few others, which had nothing to do with the old graphics).

To be fair, I never tried it with mods. I also don't mind modding games, but I believe the game should stand on its own merit before I start changing it. I won't add mods until after I've beat the game the first time. Then I'll go to town on replays.

From what I understand, yes it's worth buying and playing if you mod it out of the box. For me, and perhaps this is me being a purist, I can't do it - but I can appreciate that others would enjoy it and I can see why.

Post Re: Skyrim

Recently bought Skyrim*

Looks to be awesome, although I never let games consume much of my time. I preferred Zelda, to be honest. I like how you don't have to be one thing or another. I also notice that a lot of the "quests" are so inconsequential and random that you complete them in 2 minutes flat, while others look inconsequential, but ultimately you end up chasing around the country to try and find out what I'd actually done to upset so many people.

It shows the sophistication and mechanics of the game, and you can tell quite readily that the people who made this game put a massive effort into organizing all of the ins and outs, plot twists, etc. Archery is probably the best method of fighting, because you can stay hidden for longer whilst waiting of "magicka" to recharge, and it also deals a great amount of damage. But I also manage to attain 100+ % "energy"-"reboost", which helps.

Oh. Check out this rather nugatory video on "alternative" gameplay strategies. I defy you not to laugh at least once: http://uk.gamespot.com/the-elder-scroll ... ng-6346708

One minor note: I don't know if you guys use followers (e.g. Lydia), but there's a current bug (not sure if it's been patched yet) that they level up with the player, but their stats do not. Anyone else noticed this? :)

I don't know if I mentioned this in here or on Facebook already...

A Typical Day in Skyrim
We join Davaki the Argonian in his current adventures:

>Davaki notices his supplies on potions and food rations are running low, plus he needs a safe place to save anyways and peddle off all the Dragon Bones he was carrying. So, he decides to stop in a nearby village.<
Shopkeeper: "I'm sorry. You don't have enough coins for that!"
Davaki: "Can I sell you these Dragon Bones for some?"
Shopkeeper: "I don't have enough money for that."
Davaki: "I can't just, you know, fucking barter stuff?"
Shopkeeper: "Nope."

Davaki: "FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU-"

>Davaki looks to see if anyone needs any help. Is asked to investigate an old house - easy enough.<

*20 minutes later*

>Being chased by vampires around the countryside.<
Davaki: "WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING?!"

>10 minutes later<
Davaki: *huff. huff. huff* "I- I killed the fucking vampires..."
Jarl: "We thank you for your services. Here's some coin."
