Post coriolis effect

Greetings,

As i am searching through the interwebs, I stumbled upon a comment made under a flat earth video.

The comment tries to question heliocentric models by referencing this:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/bearingarm ... -shot/amp/

With this, the flat earther argues is an error in the Heliocentric model and claims this proves the coriolis effect is false and the earth isnt moving, because apparently the effect would have mad eit impossible on the bullet.

He also mentions this video which explains his argue better.
https://youtu.be/Qru1oKJDDEA

So if the earth is spinning at 1000mph, how did this sniper make this long range shot?

I also have other questions this flat earther raised which i would also like an answer to, but i feel that I should keep this to one question per post.

Cheers.

Could you clarify which part of that 30 minutes of video you would like a response to? Asking someone for a response to a 30 minute long video is kind of a lot.

As for how the guy made the shot, he made it the same way people manage to survive for however many seconds in the video game 0rbitalis: experience to get an initial start followed by trial and error to dial it in until it's perfect. You can see this from your linked article which notes:

During the 3800 yard shot, the first shot was close to the target and easy to see. In fact, almost every impact was visible through the spotting scope.

“17 shots later we hit our target,” said HCR President Dave Fuqua.

They did have to wait for the wind to die down else the bullet's flight path was too chaotic and inconsistent between shots even if shot with the same (controllable) parameters each time.

Somehow I suspect that even though this answers the question you asked, it's not the answer you were looking for... Perhaps try to better focus your question? Perhaps start with why you think the earth rotating would make it impossible?

Over range, snipers take the coriolis effect into account. It's all part of the training in calculating ballistic trajectories.

I mention this, among other things, in my brief treatment of how we know we live on a rotating oblate spheroid here:

If you want some fun, there's a cracking and highly amusing series on Youtube here:

Post Re: coriolis effect

Greetings,

I greatly appreciate both of your replies, and just in case you guys wanted to understand the line of thought from the flat earther, who better to do it than him?

(First comment under JTA’s thread, by Nathan North, im definitely sorry to the man who had to deal with these flat earthers month after month)

Anyway, i also have one final question but im not sure if the rules require me to make another thread, which i know is highly discouraged.

Once again, i am off to the deep end!

Cheers!

What does a video about the Toronto skyline have to do with the Coriolis effect and bullet ballistics?

Why is making another thread "highly discouraged"?

Why didn't you just make a thread about evidence for a flat earth?

Post Re: coriolis effect

Greetings,

1) That last video that was posted was were the flat earther and subsequently these questions are from.

2) I believed that opening multiple threads was actually one reason to be banned, like otangelo Grasso, I believe he opened like 10 threads and I remember comments discouraging that behavior. Plus i just dont feel like i should litter this forum with a thread for every question.

3) I thought there already was one, but was old. Anyway, i like specifics, and i didnt make this thread with other questions in mind so i guess its my bad.

Cheers.

If you make multiple threads on the same topic there will indeed be objections. But, personally, I'll object if you put off-topic things in a thread. Generally when creating a thread you should figure out what the topic is and title it appropriately so that future posts don't have to be off topic, nor do you need many threads for essentially the same topic..

Meh, if a topic's thread is sufficiently old it's perfectly fine to make a new one.

Greetings,

Thank you sir, and with that ill start a more general thread tomorrow dealing with Flat earth experiments. I guess that would differentiate it from the other threads.

Cheers.
