Post I need advise for some issues with my bipoar scitzoeffective

Greetings everyone. I am an atheist, but like everyone I am not perfect. In fact I suffer from a mental illness. What I am going through at times is manic spells, and sometimes these manic phases include religous hysteria. I know religous hysteria is a form of psychosis, and during my last manic phase, I had a brief instance of this form of psychosis. My question is for when I see my doctor next time. I am going to be informing this last spell to him, and I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge on treatments or medication I can discuss with him. I do not want to have to deal with these episodes while in mania, mania is bad enough, and I do not want fairy tales of that Psychopath in the sky plaging me while I am not my self to begin with.

Hmm... that would depend entirely on the degree of your condition. So it's sort of hard to say.

Generally psych meds are a bit of a crap shoot. Your doctor prescribes you one, and you see if it works well and if you can live with the side effects (if any).

I would suggest asking him for something that is immediate action as well if he gives you one of the drugs that take time to build up in your system before they work.

I wish I could just list out a few things for you to try, but it just isn't that simple.

What you can do is when he's written you out a prescription, pm me and I'll let you know my layman opinion of it (I'm spent a lot of time sifting through studies dealing with a variety of drugs and med's). But keep in mind he's the doctor, and I/ we are not.

I can also refer you to a site I used to be on. They have forums for patients as well as expert forums. Although I can't say how successful the relevant forum is for your disorder (they vary in traffic and available on-line medical professionals).

However, I'll point out the usership on that site has a high percentage of Christians which may not be good for you. Also, they have a near zero tolerance policy when it comes to breaking TOS. This troubled me... one of the reasons I'm no longer there.

Let me/ us know how it goes, and sorry for the troubles, mate.

I am also bipolar with some (but different than yours) psychotic symptoms.

The truth is, what works for one person doesn't work for everyone, or it would be a lot easier to for psychiatrists to fix everyone. You probably just need to experiment with anti-psychotic meds in addition to whatever antidepressants and/or mood stabilizers you take. The antideppressants/mood-stabilizers may also be sufficient of themselves to get rid of the psychotic symptoms if they keep you out of your mania.

I am not going to name names of drugs due to the fact that I am not a psychiatrist, and I'm afraid you'll take the opinion of someone with whom you have personal rapport more than the word of someone with the proper training. (That's a normal human thing to do.) But, the thing to do is that if a certain med isn't working, go to the doc and try another one. It can be a tiring process, but most people can be treated with something - there's just a lot of possibilities.

Just out of interest(and so that I understand your Post better): What does "TOS" mean in this context?
(the only "TOS" I know is the short form of "the original series"(referring to star trek), but I highly doubt this is the case here)

Glad to hear you are seeing a doctor. My only advice would be: I would not take advice on treatments from people who only heard a very brief story over the internet, please just be honest with your doctor and tell him or her all your symptoms and don't go in there thinking you need some particular medication or treatment.

Good Luck!

It means "Terms of Service."
