Post Reviving the show.

Gnug and I have been just discussing a few forum things in chat, one of which is that we need some new blood around these parts. One way we've knocked around is reviving the show. Obviously it went from here to the Magic Sandwich show, but I think we have enough regs and knowledgeable people here so that we could reanimate an LoR show.

So this is just a quick question;

who would be willing to give some time and effort into trying to get a new show off the ground, and into spreading the forum about to try and generate new members?

Any money to help the cause should be sent directly to me via a hastily set up and totally legitimate PayPal account :D

Woooh! Revival!

Uhm... yeah. We could use some activity.

Right now, though, the activity on these boards resembles that in my brain a bit, so... no good ideas here.

You should have a character called Encyclopedia Joan who has helpful information and anecdotes collated from the vast repository of gibbering glotterals knowledge known as the internet (or as Joan would put it, the web). She (or he) could be the living segue between topics and/or guests. She (or he - gosh, I'm starting to sound like a Bizarro-Eric Idle) should be enlightening and accurate, but not a robot.

This is extremely cool in my head.

Perhaps teaming up with the SkepticTV people (AngryWomble, ColinMaessen, DutchLiam84, SoundofScilence and others) in some way would be a good idea? If not all the time, then perhaps for at least some of the time.
One thing I'm struggling to see though is how it would stand out at all compared to the Magic Sandwich Show and SkepticTV.

I would.

If we could make contact with a few big Youtube names I think it could get good publicity. Also, the League of Reason Youtube channel still has a tonne of subs (almost 10,000!!!) from the early days and when the show ran, so that's another load of potential new forumites right there.

I suggest you guys listen to some podcasts, and see what works on them. Mostly, interesting people having interesting conversations and being funny more than any particular expertise on any particular subject. Also, foul language.

Marc Maron is also a popular podcaster, and he says "cock" a lot without chugging any.

AronRa still posts from time to time. Maybe, he can plug the LoR show on TMSS and/or sometimes appear on the LoR show.

Srsly, I was getting tired of looking at all the same ugly mugs around here. :P

I remember volunteering to sub in on the LoR show a long time ago... and it was such a horrifying idea that no other show was produced after my offer!

Podcasts sounds logistically easier than trying to get a show to work. The original LoR show had a tonne of tech problems when it first started.

Hmm, indeed... The whole taking-in-callers thing is mostly a gimmick. I'm sure we could gather up some guys and record a Skype convo where various creationist comments/videos get dissed, and where current topics are discussed.

Is it difficult to record a Skype convo and cast it?

I wouldn't have thought so, plus with Skype you can still take questions and stuff, it just wont be live. I'm sure we have some regs here who are more than technically capable of setting a podcast up from a recorded Skype conversation.

Yes, podcast format is probably a lot easier, and lets us be more flexible with peoples' IRL schedules. It would also allow editing and other post-production type things to happen (intros, jingles, the like). An hour and a half Skype call could easily translate into a 45 minute podcast and would allow all the less-entertaining bits to be cut out.
And of course, we could still have non-LoR guests in this format.

As for the technical aspects of recording Skype conversations:
http://www.prettymay.net/download.htm

That program allows you to record up to half an hour at once and is totally free. The speakers would have to cut and pause for a minute or so every half hour, but I don't think that would be too much of an issue.

So it's very much possible. I'm sure we've all got Youtube channels we can make promo vids for, and I don't think ti would be too hard to get some free endorsement. AronRa still posts here, Coughlan is a member too and I'm sure AW and Tr1umph would give a shout out too. Maybe.

I know some podcasts have everyone record their own end of the conversation and then email the files to the person editing the thing, and that person puts the separate files together.

Post Re: Reviving the show.

We could even broadcast the show on BlogTV, although audience participation would be non-existent, since it would be pre-recorded.

Yeah, but with the audience you guys are likely to attract, maybe that's a good thing.
