Post Topics for episode 4

Image

As the cogs begin to turn on producing episode 3, the focus of this thread is possible topics for episode 4.

As always, all thoughts are welcome and no topic or suggestion will go unconsidered.

Also, if you'd like to get involved with the show, send a PM with your ideas, contributions or suggestions (whatever's on your mind) to either me or one of the other production chaps.
You can still post your thoughts on episode 3 in the link above.

Good hunting!

A New Hope?

Well there's probably a half-decent pun in there.

Didn't we already agree on a topic for episode 4? Surely you're looking for epi 5...

How about some recurring (5 minute segments)

suggestions made in the chat yesterday were:

Logical Fallacy Du Jour - where you take 5 minutes to explain the concept and add some typical examples
Must Reads (books)
Must Sees (movies / documentaries)
Post of the Month (I think this one is obvious)

Yeah. And perhaps as an attachment, maybes some sort of cosmological / astrophysical discussion could be in order, in the vain of Lawrence M. Krauss', e.g. regarding the ideas set forth in his latest book, "A Universe From Nothing: Why There Is Something Rather Than Nothing".

I imagine that could be amusing, not to mention rather fascinating, albeit it's not a topic that we ought to focus the whole show on, IMO. :) This idea came to mind having read through the thread on his book in the Science & Mathematics subforum.

How about an episode that deals with the idea of tackling Presuppositional Apologetics......

Oh, I don't know, perhaps the group should take on a few of the arguments presented by C.S. Lewis.......
There is still light in the 'Earthly' darkness. Finding light in the darkness can be more satisfying than merely seeing the glaring light of our sun. It gives us a better understanding of light and a deeper understanding of our universe.

I have to admit, Lewis is derisively over-sold as a philosopher. Leave him to write about talking lions. :)

Keep the suggestions coming people :)
Also suggestions of things to do on the shows :)
For ep. 3 we added a seperate voice to read out quotes and definitions, and personally I'd love to have short segments like the ones mentioned above (post of the month etc) if we can fit it into coming episodes :)

Post Re: Topics for episode 4

Might be a bit gimmicky but what about including some short regular sections to the show, you know like 'Such and such of the month' - which you'd return to in each show?

Edit: Yeah what Dora said...

Also, it would be interesting if we could try to recruit people with opposing points of view to get a bit of debate going. Agree or not...?

I'm afraid that is entirely topic-dependent. :D

I feel there was disagreement in the last episode, it was just handled with courtesy and respect from all parties.

Do you have a topic in mind?

Hmm...

How about something science based maybe?

'How important is scientific literacy to society?' or something of the sort.

In my severely honest view, that question can be answered in a single word. I'm probably missing some nuance.

Personally, I'd quite like the panel to tackle a big political hot potato...

I'd agree that it can be answered in a single word, but perhaps the extent to which scientific illiteracy affects society could be discussed, and how to solve those problems?

I guess a political hot potato would be something to do with the economy, or something like 'Is Iran a threat to the West?' I dunno...
