Now that I think of it, the only two I have beaten right through are 6 and 8, and I really liked the music in both. I have beaten some of 7 and 9, but I still think 8 has the best music.

Frank Klepacki is a don. Personally my favourite composer for VG music has to be Grant Kirkhope who did all or Rare's best stuff.

Post Re: Final fantasy music

the black mages are a band that do the final fantasy music metal style, they are actually not that bad.

(in the games white mages cast healing/holy magic, black mages cast destructive/shadow magic, red mages do both and blue mages cast magic that enemy monsters use)

FF VII probably has the best music overall I reckon though there is a track in VIII which I think also appeared in Parasite Eve which I love. I have no idea what it's called but plays in one the dungeons you visit.

I also think that FFX-2's 'A Thousand Words' sounds amazing in both English and Japanese and that's coming a 'metal' fan.

You guys should check out the FF VII OC Remix album; Voices Of The Lifestream.

Post Re: Final fantasy music

I am very devoted to the works of Nobuo Uematsu.

Final Fantasy VI is likely my favorite vgm soundtrack and my favorite final fantasy soundtrack. Great motif work and excellently memorable character themes.
Final Fantasy IV has my favorite area themes. 'Into the Darkness' (in 3/4) is permanently stuck on the record player revolving in my head, having played the game so much it is now in my noggin permanently... as is pretty much all the music from Final Fantasy IV and VI. :D

FF VIII is also really good, but it was at this time that Uematsu's sampled soundtracks were starting to get more and more grating to me.

Also, Final Fantasy Tactics had an AWESOME score. You can check out a review of mine here at squareenixmusic.com.

This is a really cool site to find out more about such soundtracks, btw.

I drove to see both 'Dear Friends' (in Forth Worth, Texas) and 'Play!: Video game symphony' when it came to the Rosemont theatre in Illinois. Koji Kondo (mario bros, mario world composer) was sitting in the row in front of me and I had the opportunity to meet Nobuo Uematsu later that night.

Pretty unforgettable.

Final Fantasy IV, V and VI were my favourites, with X in close fourth. Nobuo Uematsu is for the most part a great composer.

I'm surprised Grant Kirkhope has come up, he's one of my favourite composers too. The Banjo-Kazooie sound track is amazing, Rusty Bucket Bay in particular...

Post Re: Final fantasy music

When my husband and I got married, the music we chose was all from Final Fantasy games. My uncle played "To Zanarkand" on the piano as I walked down the aisle (the piano solo from the title screen of FFX), "The Oath" from FFVIII was played through their speaker system for signing the register, and "Behind the Door" from FFIX (right at the end, last piece before the credits) was our recessional music. During the reception we had piano solos on a CD that were taken from the "S Generation" CD. Also, the table names were all FF locations such as Zanarkand, Esto Gaza, Wutai etc. and my hubby even managed to subtly get two FF references into his vows!

Recently we went to a concert in San Francisco, part of the "Distant Worlds" tour (and Nobuo Uematsu was there!). "Don't Be Afraid" from FFVIII is made of awesome (boss battle music I believe), but a lot of the music from the earlier games was beautiful too, like "Theme of Love" from FFIV.

AtheistBrit, that's so cool!

FF music is great. It's one of the things that stuck out to me when I first played FF4 when I was eight; Golbez's theme song and the boss theme songs and such were just awesome.

The Zelda series has some good pieces, too. I also like the songs from the Dragon Quest and Tales games, but I am particularly fond of some of the songs from the Castlevania series.

Post Re: Final fantasy music

I've only recently started FF9 and so far the music is some of the best I've ever heard. I also think 8 is really good. Oh and crisis core has a really awesome sountrack. A lot of FF7's classic tracks were remade for it. My favourite was the redo of 7's battle theme. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHYegqLm ... re=related

Hi, here is a link to a site where you can download (free) a 4 disc album of FF7 music remixes. I have it and it is quite enjoyable.

Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream is an OverClocked ReMix Album featuring free fan arrangements from the soundtrack to Square's legendary Final Fantasy VII for the Sony Playstation.

From jazz to techno to rock to classical, it features over forty five tracks from over forty artists, each interpreting composer Nobuo Uematsu's works in their own unique style.

Post Re: Final fantasy music

I just posted somewhere regarding FF music. I ABSOLUTELY love it! Every one of them. Particularly the Zanarkand theme from FFX. I love playing it on piano and there's a symphony version of it on youtube. Brilliant!
