Evanescence is made of win!

Personally, I've listened to a few songs by Red and Flyleaf and they were pretty decent. Actually, Red's song "Pieces" was quite good in my opinion.

Mmm...there aren't really any full bands that I like with religious themes, but there are a few specific songs.

I like Flyleaf's "I can feel you all around me", "Fully Alive" and "Breathe Today". I absolutely hate their message, but I like the style of the instrumentals and singing of those 3 songs. I also like a few songs by Pillar like "Frontline" and "Fireproof". Also a couple POD songs and a few Soulfly songs. Oh yeah and a bit of As I Lay Dying.

But it's never more than a few songs, most of the bands I listen to oppose religion, so I find it both bizarre and distasteful to listen to bands singing in a positive view of religion. You know, black metal and that stuff.

So no religious bands, but the odd song here and there just due to good instrumentals and singing style. That's usually about as far as it goes with religious music for me.

I listen to Lifehouse, they at least USED to be a Christian band. Many of their songs can still be interpreted religiously. They're still pretty good.

Also, U2 mentions God at least once per album. However, they're not IN YOUR FACE about it, and they talk about God in a more poetic sense.

Here's my favorite "religiousy" song. "O Vos Omnes"

I also like Bach's motet "Singet Dem Herrn Ein Neues Leid" (probably didn't spell that right. Those are the two I can think of off the top of my head.

I enjoy a lot of spirituals (including, of course, "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" as sung by the crowd at Twickenham).

I'm a big fan of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and much of their music has religious themes.

As a (former) choral singer, I can appreciate a load of religious choral music - Handel's Messiah, Haydn's Creation and any number of brilliant Requiems, of which my favourites are Mozart's and Faure's.

3:24 is when the bit about Christian singing begins, but the whole clip is about religion and has long been one of my favourites. :)

Post Re: Religious Music.

I never really gave it much thought until I found this thread but yes...... there are some religious music/songs I really like
Amazing grace, played on bagpipes.
Anything Gregorian chant. A few hymns sung by black baptist types only for their phenomenal vocal ranging and styling.
Some christmas hymns (especially "what child is this" -greensleeves tune) but I think I only like them because it's something everyone can all sing together, (because the songs are really old and everyone knows the words)
and I enjoy singing with others.
The supreme irony of life is that no one gets out of it alive.
