As Nemesiah says, vegan diets are not always animal-protein free nor are they to be followed regardless of the individual's health.
Vegan diets are not recommended for pregnant women or children, also there are long-term health problems due to a lack of vitamins B-12 and D, omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, iron, calcium, etc, in strict veganism.
As always, taking things to extremes is not good for one's health - everything in moderation, as the saying goes.
